And a few years later, one of the very first Rolex Day-Date watches ever released, the ref. 1803, was unveiled by Rolex. There are several distinctive aspects that make the ref. 1803 stand out.

The acrylic crystal that was affixed to the reference 1803, one of the most distinctive features of these watches. If you look closely, you'll also note that the Day-Date 1803 has "pie pan" dials, which have a distinctive dial form with a very old feel. The outside edge of the dial slopes downward, giving the impression that the dial is an inverted pie pan. Though it should be noted that pie-pan dials were also present in the two earlier versions from the 1950s, the Rolex Day-Date ref. 1803 was the last to sport one.
