About the reference 1680 Red Submariner:
A rare and highly coveted Rolex model, the Rolex Submariner 1680 is also known as the “Red Submariner.” The red text on the dial of the Red Submariner is arguably its most defining and important characteristic. The first batch of Submariner 1680 watches, which were made between about 1967 and roughly 1975, had the word “Submariner” printed in red rather than the customary white. Collectors now place a high value on and a great deal of demand for red lettering on Rolex watches.
About this particular example:
This Submariner 1680 is a really special watch, every piece is factory original and period correct. First, it has one of the most beautiful dials (MKVI) we have encountered, showing a pumpkin patina in the hour markers and hands. Second, it has a “Fat Font” insert that has aged to a gray/blue tone, an unpolished bezel and a thick and strong case. This red sub comes with the original 9315 bracelet, 380 endlinks and a “no code” clasp, which is correct for that year. Overall, one of the best examples we have seen of this iteration.
Information:
Size: 40mm without crown
Serial: 37*****
Year: 1974
Calibre: 1575
Bracelet: Oyster
